Classical history, Ancient Greece continue to sprinkle the history and culture of Taranto, as well as being one of the main tourist attractions of the city obviously. Magna Graecia and the Terra d’Otranto, symbol of the resistance to the unification of Italy linked to brigandage, contribute to enveloping Taranto with symbolic and ritual atmospheres in which to immerse yourself. On the other hand, many stories and music are linked to the historical period of the Unification that make the region one of the symbols of Southern Italy.

Taranto is the ideal destination for a spring weekend out of town or as a stop on your journey to discover Apuglia.

Accommodation and overnight in Taranto.

Meet your guide and driver in the hotel lobby and start your private tour to discover the city of Grottaglie, better known as the city of ceramics.

The picturesque Ceramics Quarter (li cameni in the local dialect), with its heaps of vases stacked in the alleys, squares and on the roofs of tuff houses blackened by the kilns. There are about fifty artisan shops – among these, generally very old, some dating back to the 1400s – generally dug into the tuff or covered with barrel or star vaults, and develop in rooms located at various levels underground and connected by stone. This morning you will have the opportunity to visit one of the most famous ceramic workshops in Grottaglie to see closely how the clay is worked and the process that the vase undergoes to become an object of great design in your own home.

Following the visit, you will return to Taranto for lunch in a typical Taranto restaurant overlooking the sea.

Afterwards, you will start your guided tour of the city of two seas: Taranto.

On this guided tour of Taranto you will discover the places and monuments that make the Apulian town unique, nestled between the Mar Grande and Mar Piccolo.

At the chosen time, you will meet your guide in Piazza Castello, where you will begin a guided tour of Taranto, strolling through the streets of what was once one of the nerve centers of Magna Graecia.

From Piazza Castello, where the Taranto fortress called Sant’Angelo stands, you will walk towards the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon from the 6th century BC, flanked by two Doric columns that testify to the important past of the Apulian town.

You will cross the bridge which, with its 90 meters in length, crosses a navigable canal 400 meters long, joining the Mar Grande to the Mar Piccolo. From this vantage point you can take wonderful photos!

The tour will continue with a visit to the Marta National Museum, where the city’s gold is kept today. The Marta is a chest of treasures and testimonies of the past that tell the story of the city and its territory. Some of these particularly significant finds have therefore become a privileged point of rest and study for all visitors.

After about two hours, you will finish the tour in the city borough.

After this experience, return to the hotel.

Overnight in Taranto.

The morning will be free to carry out other activities of your choice.

In the afternoon, meet your driver in the hotel lobby for transfer to the Taranto countryside.

You will dedicate this afternoon to visiting a historic winery and Masseria.

The wines produced by the Masseria are born from the meeting of tradition and research. They are a faithful expression of the territory and evoke every facet of it. Attention to detail and limited yields make it possible to obtain quality organic wines that tell, with their authentic essence, the love for this extraordinary land immersed in the heart of the Mediterranean.

You will be accompanied to get to know the Masseria’s vineyard and garden project up close, you will take a tour of the Masseria overlooking the vineyard from the terrace and you will taste 5 wines paired with cold cuts and cheeses.

After this experience, return to the hotel.

Overnight in Taranto.

Overnight in Taranto.

Meet your driver in the hotel lobby and transfer to Bari. On route, stop in Marherita di Savoia for a guided tour of Saline.
The Salina di Margherita di Savoia nature reserve is a protected natural area in Puglia established in 1977.
The Saline are the largest salt pans in Europe by extension and second in the world. This primacy is very important, especially if we consider that the area, for almost its total extension, is today a vast nature reserve where hundreds of bird species spend the winter or live permanently, having found here an ideal habitat for their lives.

Seeing what these stretches of water reserve, whose reflections merge with the sky and whose color tones vary from intense blue to pink, was an exciting and very interesting experience.

At the end of your experience, lunch in Margherita di Savoia.
Accomodation and overnight in Bari.

The day will be free at your leasure to carry out unscheduled activities that you can book with us, such as a full day on the beach with wine tasting in Manduria, a guided tour of the Mar Piccolo area and the WWF protected area.
