Day 10

departure

Welcome to Italy! At your arrival at Fiumicino airport, meet your driver for a private transfer to reach your hotel in Rome.

Accommodation and relax.

After your check-in and some time to take a break after your flight, meet your assistant for a briefing to know more about your itinerary and enjoy a welcome dinner in Rome.

Then return to your hotel and overnight in Rome.

Meet your driver and guide in the hotel lobby and start your private tour to discover the Vatican Museums.

The Vatican Museums are some of the largest museums in the world with an enormous collection that varies from ancient Roman and Egyptian artefacts, religious objects, beautifully painted rooms and even modern art. The 26 different museums of the Vatican are housed in a complex of multiple Apostolic palaces, and are by far the most popular museum destination in Rome, in part because of the famous Sistine Chapel. During your visit, you will marvel at the many art treasures that the popes have collected in 54 halls since the 16th century.

The absolute highlight of the route through the Vatican museums is a visit to the Sistine Chapel (‘Capella Sistina’). The name is derived from the founder of the chapel, pope Sixtus IV. The impressive ceiling of this 15th-century Sistine Chapel was painted in the 16th century by Michelangelo. It portrays the story of creation, the great flood and other scenes. The side walls are equally beautiful with paintings of the life of Jesus made by Ghirlandaio, Botticelli, Perugino, Pinturicchio and others. The wall behind the alter shows Michelangelo’s painting of the ‘Last Judgement’. The Sistine Chapel is mostly known for being the space where the cardinals meet for conclave when electing a new pope. When a new pope is being elected, smoke comes from the chapel’s chimney twice a day. White smoke means a new pope has been elected, while black smoke means the cardinals were not yet successful in their mission.

After these 4 hours of guided visit, return to your hotel by private transfer.

Overnight in Rome.

Meet your driver and guide in the hotel lobby to discover the heart of Rome with the Colosseum.

Walk in the footsteps of emperors and gladiators and retrace 3,000 years of history with this 4-hour tour of the city’s illustrious past as capital of the ancient Roman Empire. You will visit the Colosseum, whose construction was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian as a gift for the Romans and then became the stage of cruel gladiator games, and the Roman Forum archeological area, the monumental maze of public and religious buildings that used to be the political, social and commercial hub of the empire. From the Palatine we will descend into the valley occupied by the Roman Forum, which together with the area of the Imperial Forums, constituted the beating heart and monumental center of ancient Rome. Our guide will lead you along the Via Sacra, the road of processions and triumphs where you will hear details about daily life, anecdotes about famous politicians and ancient legends. You will also get to know the most prestigious buildings in the square such as the Curia, the official seat of the Roman senators, which has survived intact; the rostrum stands from where heated political speeches were delivered; the rally or the area intended for the elections of magistrates and the imposing triumphal arches.

You will also discover what pastimes the young people practiced at the time thanks to the graffiti reproducing the gaming boards that we will point out to you engraved on the steps of the Basilica Iulia, the events linked to one of the most famous and admired men of Rome Julius Caesar, to whom Augustus after death dedicated a temple. You cannot miss a visit to the temple and the house of the Vestals with details on the life of these special priestesses considered sacred. Included in the tour is the walking tour to the heart of Rome where you will end with a gelato tasting.

After this full day excursion, return to your hotel by private transfer.

Located about 30 km from Pompeii and 50 km from Naples, it is one of the major tourist centers in Campania. The visit, lasting approximately 400 minutes, starts from Piazza Tasso, dedicated to the illustrious Sorrento scholar and continues in the area of the historic center, which still preserves the Roman road system today. Its picturesque alleys are dotted with artisans’ workshops, including those who continue the ancient tradition of wooden inlay. Subsequently we admire the Sedil Dominova, a monumental building dating back to the 14th century, which was the seat of the city’s nobility, and then reach the area of the Villa Comunale, a lush garden which offers a fantastic panorama of the Gulf of Naples and from which you can access to the fourteenth-century cloister of S. Francesco, with its particular Arabesque architecture.

Overnight in Sorrento.

Meet your driver in your hotel lobby in Sorrento and transfer to Caserta station. On the road, stop in Caserta for a private guided tour of the Reggia di Caserta.

The Royal Palace of Caserta is considered the largest royal residence in the world, even larger than Versailles. The laying of the first stone took place on 20 January 1752, by will of the King of Naples Charles of Bourbon. As part of the vast work of reorganization of the kingdom of Naples, undertaken by Charles since 1734, the foundation of this palace also took place, which was supposed to symbolize the prestige of the bourbon monarchy, but was also supposed to constitute a safer home than Naples.

The architect who built it was Luigi Vanvitelli, to whom the king asked that in the project of the sumptuous residence there should be, in addition to the palace, also the park and the arrangement of the surrounding urban area, with the supply from a new aqueduct (Acquedotto Carolino) which crossed the annexed complex of San Leucio.

At the end of the gallery, which crosses the Palace, the main attraction of the Palace begins, a 3 km long park with a succession of meadows, pools and scenographic fountains, adorned with sculptures that exalt nature through myths. Luigi Vanvitelli’s ideas, not yet completed when he died, were implemented with some variations by his son Carlo. Via the central avenue you first reach the “Fontana Margherita” and then the Ponte d’Ercole where the great “waterway” begins.

The first fountain you come across is the one called “Dolphins” because the water comes out of the mouths of three large fish carved in stone. Followed by the fountain of “Aeolus”, a large exedra in which numerous “caverns” open which simulate the home of the winds, represented by several statues of zephyrs, never completed.

The garden offers a series of places: the cryptoporticus, with statues from the Pompeii excavations and the Farnese collection; the small lake of the Bagno di Venere, with the fake Pompeian ruins; the English-style casino, built on two floors, with a base and Doric pillar supporting a cornice adorned with medallions, which was Graefer’s home. Nearby are the Aquarium, intended for aquatic plants, the Rose Garden and the Botanical School.

After your guided tour, continue with your transfer to Caserta station.

1st class train from Caserta to Bari station. On arriving at Bari station, meet your driver for a private transfer to your Hotel in Monopoli.

After your check-in and some time to take a break after your trip, meet your assistant for a welcome dinner in Monopoli.

Walk under an archway which opens onto the sea and a long promenade along the harbour. This castle is very unique, and the best part is the view of the blue sea of Monopoli, with the characteristic surroundings and the fishing port. It contains several side altars, all of them magnificent.

After your guided tour of Monopoli, continue with a guided tour of Polignano a Mare.

Ready to be enchanted by the charm of this little jewel on the Apulian coast? Let’s go!

Today you will start next to Domenico Modugno’s sculpture to kick off the guided tour of Polignano Mare.

Afterwards, we will enter the historic center walking through the pretty squares and quiet streets, with our gaze lost between the terraces overlooking the sea and the typical white houses full of flower pots. All suspended in a relaxed, simply entrancing atmosphere!
