Why coosing veneto for your holiday in Italy

Venice would be enough to make Veneto one of the most visited regions in Italy. And instead, one of the most loved and visited cities in the world is joined by other wonderful cities such as Verona, Padua, Vicenza, Treviso and much more.

Veneto is first and foremost Venice: it is impossible not to include its wonderful capital in a travel program in Veneto. Entirely built on water, it is a unique city in the world, capable of surprising and enchanting despite an influx of visitors so high that it is sometimes exhausting. Beautiful both during major events such as Carnival or the Redentore, and during low season periods such as the beginning of autumn, Venice is truly one of the places to see at least once in your life. One day is enough to visit the most famous attractions: Piazza San Marco, the Basilica, Palazzo Ducale, the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs.

The Grand Canal is crossed by four bridges. One of these is the iconic Rialto Bridge, one of the symbols of the city: this majestic covered stone bridge, richly ornamented, is beautiful to admire as a whole and is also a dream location for photos with a backdrop of the Grand Canal. Once you have overcome this wonder, you won’t have to wait long to see another one: the elaborate spiers and Byzantine-style decorations of one of the most beautiful churches in the world await you, the splendid Basilica of San Marco. Two steps further stands the Palazzo Ducale, or Palazzo dei Dogi, the historic seat of the Serenissima Republic. The classic tour ends at the Bridge of Sighs, the beautiful covered bridge that connects the Doge’s Palace to the prisons of Venice: so beautiful that despite its gloomy function it has become an emblem of romance throughout the world. With a little more time it is a must to visit Murano and Burano, the islands of the Venetian lagoon famous for their glass and lace traditions. Although there are many things to see in Venice, make sure you leave time for a gondola trip. Sailing the canals with this very elegant traditional boat, used in the past by nobles and intellectuals, is a magical experience: the best way to fully appreciate the uniqueness of a city built entirely on water.

Venice is not just the historic center crossed by the famous Grand Canal: an important slice of the city is represented by the islands of the lagoon. These “satellites” of the historic center allow you to experience a less chaotic Venice, that of the Venetians intent on their daily chores. The most visited are Murano and Burano, whose fame is linked to two artisan traditions that have become an art form: the processing of blown glass in the first case and lace in the second. The first island is very large and close to the center, so it can easily be included in the program of a day trip. The colorful Burano is further away but small; from here you can cross a bridge and reach the little-known island of Mazzorbo, where something awaits you that you would never expect to find in Venice. The other Venetian island not to be missed is that of the Lido of Venice, a favorite holiday destination for nobles and intellectuals of the early twentieth century which still retains echoes of this glorious past. The spotlights turn on on this island between the end of August and the beginning of September, the period in which the famous Venice Film Festival takes place.
