LIGURIA
Why coosing LIGURIA for your holiday in Italy
There is a Liguria that tastes of basil and smells of vineyards, a Liguria that breathes with the waves and crashes on the cliffs, a Liguria that whispers among the villages and sings among the alleys, a Liguria that climbs the mountains and gets lost among the forests and flowering meadows.
They call it “La Superba”, but despite the great wealth accumulated over centuries of maritime trade, Genoa has a humble soul. We move from the opulence of the noble palaces in the Via Aurea to the colorful and chaotic charm of popular neighborhoods, from the modernity of structures such as the Aquarium and the Biosphere to the echoes of the Middle Ages in the historic churches, from the liveliness of the seafront in the Porto Antico to the silence of the lookouts behind the centre.
Cinque Terre is one of the most popular Italian tourist destinations. Every year they attract many tourists for their atmosphere and natural beauty. With its small port and its houses painted according to the Ligurian tradition, Riomaggiore is one of the best places to admire the sunset in the Cinque Terre.
Corniglia is the only town in the Cinque Terre that is not located directly on the sea. In fact, it stands on the top of a rocky promontory about one hundred meters above sea level and is surrounded by vineyards and typical Ligurian terraces with dry stone walls. The town is full of charm with typical “caruggi”, the small streets between pastel colored houses. Manarola is one of the most beautiful villages of the Cinque Terre, perched on a steep promontory of dark rock, with its small port and its colorful houses. Head to the port where, after a long day, you can enjoy a refreshing dip.
Monterosso still retains the signs of past naval battles: the medieval tower which today is the bell tower of the church of San Giovanni, the castle with its three round towers and the Aurora tower, the only one of the thirteen towers still surviving which in its time protected the country from frequent pirate attacks. Climbing the stairs up to the statue of San Francesco you can admire an incredible view of Monterosso and towards Vernazza.
Located in Liguria, in the province of Genoa, there is a municipality that has only 380 inhabitants but is known throughout the world: we are talking about Portofino. In the western part of the Gulf of Tigullio, its territory is characterized by an almost uncontaminated nature, if not completely. Its beaches, in particular those concentrated along the eastern side of the promontory, are part of a protected marine area. Furthermore, together with the municipalities of Santa Margherita Ligure and Camogli, it forms the Portofino Regional Natural Park, a protected natural area where you can go hiking.
Now considered the chosen destination for exclusive holidays by VIPs among yachts and luxury hotels, it is still a picturesque fishing village that retains its typical air of a small Italian town.
It is a land of sea, nature, art, taste, unique stories and passions.
This is Liguria.
